I started writing the blog shortly after our 50th Reunion just to have a place where classmates could contact each other. I chose Microsoft as the host mainly because it was free. A few years later, Microsoft got out of the blogging business and transferred the accounts to WordPress where it stayed free. For the most part, the transfer went smoothly.
I was posting on Mondays and Fridays, but I had a large backlog, so I added Wednesdays to catch up. But now I have about caught up. The posting on road millers was the last of the backlog.
Mainly I used articles from the New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal as “inspiration.” Then, my Wall Street Journal trial subscription was up, and the cost of the subscription doubled. The Wall Street Journal was delivered early each morning with my local newspaper. I canceled both, but the remaining New Yorkers supplied me with more than enough material. I miss the bundles of newspapers to use as packing or to wrap plants, but now even one old newspaper is hard to find.
I usually get 30 to 40 “views” each day from all over the world. (I must have a big fan in Sweden).
My main problem was my mouse cursor jumping all over the screen and hesitating. I would move to an insertion point and type a few letters. Nothing would happen for about a minute, then the letters would appear and the cursor would stop jumping. In the meantime, I would have retyped the letters and duplicates would appear.
Then, in desperation, I reinstalled Windows 10. This erased the programs I had added. I could reinstall them all, but the parameters were gone. It was a difficult week.
Conclusion. I will be posting on Fridays and Mondays (no longer Wednesdays), hopefully about midnight, so when you get up in the morning, it should be waiting. But if I forgot to set it up I will post it sometime during the day, so if it is not there first thing in the morning, check back periodically. If the postings suddenly stop altogether again, I have probably died.
Or I wish I had died. Both Windows 10 and WordPress were both making changes. I don’t know who was at fault or why the problem suddenly went away. Not knowing, the problem could suddenly reappear anytime. I still have occasional problems with the format not matching what I wrote, so bear with me when you notice something strange, usually in the spacing between paragraphs.
Update 11/13/2019: Installed a new Windows update last night, and now all seems fine—keeping my fingers crossed, though.
I need to be a software expert as well as a writer. I am teaching myself HTML, the language of the Internet, just as a hedge. This blog is written in HTML, and your browser interprets and formats the HTML input for whatever is your device: phone, tablet, or desktop. WordPress supplies a visual HTML program that I have been using all these years with no problems (what you see is what you get, only I was not getting what I entered). None of this should be your concern.
