South American Justice

The BBC website had an article on the discovery of a trove of documentation on atrocities worthy of the Gestapo committed by a former Paraguayan dictator.  I do not mean to trivialize the enormity of what the dictator did, but one man was convicted of being an “intellectual terrorist and an ignoramus.”

I did not know being an ignoramus was ever a crime anywhere. A good part of our elected officials would be locked up under that law.  Can you imagine carrying that around for the rest of your life?

“Have you ever been arrested?”

“Yes”

“What was the charge?”

“Being an ignoramus.”
