According to a recent editorial, one of the occupations falling on hard times these days is bank robbing. It was a growth occupation right up until 2008 but has since fallen almost in half in only four years. What with the plastic economy, banks just don’t keep cash on hand like they used to. The average take is just $8,623, hardly worth getting out of bed for when identity theft can be done in your pajamas with no risk of violence.
But the kicker that caught my eye was the comment that, “robbing a bank these days makes as much sense as opening an independent book store.” Ouch! Opening a bookstore was once the dream of many a retiree. Is there no end to our burdens?
